  This became common during the Great Depression,with a twist. Banker’s agents would come to a small town to foreclose on a farm. The Sheriff would refuse to accompany them.

  The next day, the Sheriff would go out to collect their bodies out of a roadside ditch.

  The banks gave up on formal foreclosures in many areas.
